Cherry Apple Quilting ~ Tina Chelgren
Hi! I'm Tina and I have been quilting since the mid-1980's ~ I started out hand quilting to finish my quilts and transitioned to machine quilting on my domestic machine in the mid 2000's. My husband Tim and I took a leap of faith in 2014 and purchased our very first longarm quilting machine and haven’t looked back since! Quilting is my life passion and I am so thankful for the opportunity to quilt for people! I am also the quilt shop manager for the Dutch Rose Quilt Shop here in Sioux Falls, SD and I LOVE my job there! I quilt our shop samples so if you stop in, you can see many samples of my work there. I provide quilting for our wonderful customers and am thrilled to be doing what I LOVE! I am honored to turn your unfinished quilt tops into quilts that can be used and loved for years to come!
My story begins with my mother, who was an excellent seamstress/crafter/artist turned quilter. Growing up, I watched her always creating…in my eyes, there wasn’t anything she tried that she couldn’t do. She began hand quilting in 1979 when I was in junior high and I was in awe of her planning her quilts out, picking out fabrics and bringing them to life. I was not sure then I would ever have the patience to make a quilt but I sure loved using the ones she made! Fast forward a few years to 1987 when she helped me get started on my own quilting journey. I wanted to make a quilt in my spare time as a new wife and mother and after the first one, I was hooked! Though she is no longer with us today, she is always with me in spirit. Now, countless quilting projects later, it has gone from a hobby, to my passion & business!
Cherry Apple Quilting has a story behind it’s name. Not long after my husband Tim and I were married, I wanted to make some sort of dessert for guests coming over. Growing up, my mom made THE best pies and that’s what I wanted to make. However, we lived a long way from home….soooo I guess it was time I learned how to bake one myself! My favorite kind of pie was cherry, but my husband’s favorite was apple. Instead of making one or the other, I combined the two and my Cherry-Apple pie was created! To this day, I have not made cherry or apple pie alone again. So for me, Cherry Apple Quilting is the perfect name for our wonderful quilting adventure!
If you've read this far, thank you for your interest in our story! It would be my pleasure and honor to quilt for you!
