47" x 65" ~ 6 Block Necktie Memory Quilt
Sioux Falls, SD
This quilt was a neat one to design! Our customer's husband was a big tie wearer and she brought us his ties she had saved after he passed away for us to create a memory quilt for her instead of having them all just sit in a box in a closet. We had a few design ideas and this is the one she liked the most. The blocks were created with a special ruler that is called a Squedge ruler - so it makes a square block from wedge shape cuts - thus it's "squedge" name! It's pretty cool how it all came together in "tie shapes"! We used a tone on tone cream color for the opposite shapes so that the ties would stand out. You'll have to hit the next frame to see the closeup picture of the inner border and sashing...we found a wonderful carmel-ly tan print that looks like tie fabric! Then we framed it with the complimentary dark brown outer border print. I used the Pineapple Skin digital design from Karlee Porter - I flipped it so that it would stitch the shape in a downward design to replicate ties...it is always such a joy to be able to create a lasting memory in the form of a quilt for people to remember their loved ones by. We appreciate her trusting us with this special honor.
