76" x 95" ~ Custom Memory Quilt from 25+ pieces of clothing
Sioux Falls, SD
We recently made this special memory quilt as a surprise from a wife to her husband who's mother had passed away too soon....She brought us a huge bag of her mother-in-law's clothing and said to "make what you can from it and just surprise me". There were only a couple of T-Shirts in the bag, the rest were dresses, shirts and leggings. Lots of cutting and interfacing later...we framed the T-Shirts and built the rest of the quilt with a Disappearing Nine Patch style pattern. We quilted it with a swirl design for movement and this is how the finished quilt turned out. She was overcome with joy when she picked it up and said her husband felt the same when she gave it to him that night. Lots of tears for us all. Come to find out, his mother's name is Joy, so the fact that we framed that shirt in the quilt without knowing that made it very special for them. Quilts not only bring joy and comfort, they can help heal hearts as well. So grateful to be able to do this quilty life. This quilt beautifully demonstrated how cherished garments can be transformed into a stunning keepsake. To make it extra special when it's being used, we put Pewter Cuddle on the back and used 80/20 Cotton/Poly Blend Quilters Dream batting inside.
